About Us
We are situated in Tasmania, the southern most island of Australia, famed for many world heritage wilderness sites, temperate rainforests and, arguably, the world’s cleanest & greenest environment.
We are located in the South East corner of Tassie, within the Coal River Valley. Our valley houses the famous Richmond Bridge, within the Richmond town, one of the oldest European settlments in Australia. This valley with its alternating cool nights and sunny days enjoys a micro climate ideal for the growing of fruit. The fruit is encouraged to sit on the tree longer allowing greater 'sugaring up' as opposed to the fruit simply gaining water weight.
Qew Orchards actually comprises three properties managed as one. There are the two newer and adjoining properties previously known as Moreville and The Leys. Then, a comfortable 15 minutes ride away, there is the remaining orchard at Dulcot.
Our name, Qew Orchards, was adapted as an ironic joke from Kew Gardens, which is situated in Richmond, London. The choice of the "Q" is a public reminder to us, that you, the public have a right to expect on a quality product. At Qew, fresh apricots mean Quality, Quality, Quality.
We have taken many steps to ensure quality. These include:
• We are dedicated sustainable farmers. Click
here for more info – Orchard Practices
• Tassie has very few pests and diseases. We capitalize on this by using
minimal chemicals.
• We use the most sophisticated sorting and storage equipment so that
our apricots can sit on the trees until the last minute.
• We are SQF2000, Sedex and Globalgap certified.
Qew Orchards has also been asked to head up an MIS (Managed Investment Scheme) for Cool Climates, which involves another 90,000 trees. This property is starting to bear fruits and is located adjacent to Qew Orchards.
We have just put in place a weather station on the new property, you can view the current weather from here.
